The 2022 Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment Award

What is the Subaru Love Promise?

Subaru and our retailers believe in making the world a better place and the Subaru Love Promise is our vision of respecting all people. This is our commitment to show love and respect to our customers and to work to make a positive impact in the world.

The Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment

We believe in being a positive force in something bigger. And it all starts right here in our community. Not just by our donations, but by our actions.

That's why we stay true to our Love Promise Community Commitment by partnering with a wide variety of community nonprofits and charities.

Every year, we join hands with our owners in the "Share the Love" event, giving back to our community-a community that's given so much to us.

So, every day, we strive to ensure our love is felt not just by our customers, but by all in our community. We do this because we feel it is the right thing to do.

We are proud to participate in the Love Promise Community Commitment. We're grateful, not only to be a part of our community, but to serve and support the causes and passions that are closest to our hearts, right here in our neighborhood.

All of the organizations we support have one thing in common: the unwavering dedication to improve the world and the lives of its people.

A partner since 2008, Subaru has donated over $28 million to the ASPCA and through Subaru Loves Pets has helped support the rescue, transport, adoption and well-being of over 230,000 animals across the country.

Loving the environment means more than loving the great outdoors. It means working to preserve it.

Since 2018, Subaru has partnered with TerraCycle.  Participating Subaru retailers collect hard-to-recycle trash that was headed to local landfills. We collect approximately 2 tons of this hard-to-recycle trash monthly, which will be converted to furnishings and other usable items and donated locally.

It’s our goal to make the pursuit of knowledge available to as many minds as possible.

Since 2015 Subaru, in partnership with the American Association for the Advancement Science, donated over 277,600 award-winning science books.  In addition, through our partnerships with Staples and we supported teachers and students with donations of S400,000 in gift cards and school supplies.

In a perfect world, hunger would be history and hope would be commonplace. We believe a perfect world is possible.

In 2020, Subaru and its retailers made a donation to Feeding America to provide 50 million meals to help feed people in need during the COVID-19 crisis,* making meals available at 199 local food banks across the country.
*$1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.

We should all have a chance to lead a healthy life. We’re aiming to give as many people that chance as we can.

Since 2016, Subaru and its retailers have partnered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to donate over 167,000 blankets and 21,500 arts & crafts kits and reached nearly 150,000 patients in more than 780 hospitals nationwide.

Cassie The Underdog  –  Julie B

Cassie is truly an underdog, she was brought to Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF) on July 5th after being saved from almost getting hit by a truck. Cassie was a stray wandering the streets for quite some time. When she arrived at ARF she was not spayed and severely in need of a dental, suffered from cherry eye and had numerous mammary tumors all over her tummy. No family was ever found and after the stray period was over we completed the necessary surgeries. Our vet removed over 6 masses and fortunately they were all benign. Cassie went into a foster home to heal from her huge day of surgeries. She had a wonderful foster mom that gave her a quiet space to heal and get ready to find her forever family and start living her best life. This girl healed nicely and because of the event at Lithia Subaru of Fresno and the added awareness she landed herself a wonderful forever home.

Thanks "Fore" Supporting Central California SPCA!  –  Linda V

We’re so grateful Lithia Subaru of Fresno was one of our presenting Title Sponsors at our third annual Dog Days at Airways annual golf tournament in May of 2021. Their generosity directly contributed to the overall success of the tournament. Since 2020 was a little unprecedented, we weren’t sure what to expect. Life finally felt like it was beginning to feel like it did pre-pandemic and people were readjusting to daily life. We were pleasantly surprised that this year’s event was our biggest and best one yet! 144 golfers showed their support and over $25,000 was raised for the animals in our care! All funds raised at the tournament funnel back into our community. We’re committed to leading and helping animals and people by providing programs and services throughout all stages of an animal’s life: adoptions, rescue, foster care, owner surrenders, outreach, humane education, veterinary services, spay/neuter programs, pet services, and more. It means a lot to have caring and collaborative partners like Lithia Subaru of Fresno who share their love for animals and have a desire to help the greater good.

American Pie  –  Julie B

Due to the extra exposure from Lithia Subaru of Fresno we were able to fundraise enough to care for Boody's TPLO surgery. These days it’s hard to find something good in the world, and life just seems drab. Unlike we humans, dogs seem to have an innate way of rolling with the punches and going along with whatever the universe throws at them. For example, ARF is housing a few dogs and cats from the fires, and since they don’t know what’s happening, we try our best to comfort them. The only reason they’re trusting us volunteers at all is because we keep our pockets packed with treats. Pupperoni is key for making new friends. One of our newest tenants, “Boudroex” (aka Boody), is not a victim of the fires, but of a painful human condition called Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Boody’s owner had MS, whose symptoms can include vision problems, fatigue, dizziness, and permanent nerve damage. Boody is an obedience service dog, who was specifically trained to help his owner through the difficult and painful process of dealing with MS on a daily basis. Even though there are many treatment options, Boody’s owner sadly lost his battle with MS. I’m sure Boody was right by his side, just like Miss Cocoa was with my dad. A dog’s love never dies… Boody is a beautiful tan and white male American Bulldog, about six-years-old. I was finally able to meet this charmer over the weekend, and after about five minutes, I seriously wanted to smuggle him home. Unfortunately, Miss Cocoa would not approve. And well, at 85 pounds, Boody’s a bit too large to fit into my biggest tote bag. Boody is one of those dogs who might intimidate people at first glance. He’s tall, with a squishy face and underbite, which can definitely look a little scary. But once he leans against your legs like you’re a giant Oak tree, any apprehension melts away. Boody enjoys lots of scratching on his big bully head and his wiggly butt. Just watch out for that tail; it’s a true lethal weapon. Boody’s that friendly dog who sees a stranger, and immediately races over to say, “Hey, who are you? Do you have any treats? Will you be my best friend?” This sweet boy is high energy, strong, and super FUN. He’s also one of those dogs who doesn’t know his own strength, and can easily knock a small child or elderly person to the ground. Boody loves to play, but keep an eye on this Speedy Gonzales – he’s a fast one! Boody has a sister, Jewel, another American Bulldog. She is also trained for basic obedience, and at one time she was a licensed companion service dog. Jewel was lucky enough to be chosen for one of our Heaven Can Wait trips to Oregon, where she will, without a doubt, find her forever home. Unfortunately, Boody wasn’t able to make the same journey, since he’s recovering from surgery on his right leg. Similar to a torn ACL in humans, Boody was suffering from a Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL), which causes pain and immobility. This can occur after extensive impact on the ligament, or during a sudden injury. It’s possible that Boody’s frail owner leaned on Boody for support. After many years, this may have taken on a toll on his back leg. To treat a CCL rupture, vets recommend the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO). The TPLO procedure is a method to repair a cruciate ligament rupture. The TPLO is the most common procedure for dogs with a cruciate tear. It requires a specialty surgeon, and in general, the TPLO has an excellent success rate. Boody is happy to be pain-free again, but NOT happy about his restrictive recovery time of 8-12 weeks. Why CAN’T I go play? It’s not fair…oh wait, is that another biscuit for little ol’ me?

Subaru & Santa Delivers Bed  –  Vivian M

Thank you so much for the exciting event you held for the Share the Love Event. It is awesome that you chose Sleep in Heavenly Peace as your Hometown Charity. You made it extra special by sponsoring the event and having Santa Clause come to the kids house and help deliver beds to these kids. One child commented that he didn't think Santa Clause cared about him.

Ripple Effect of Blanket Deliveries  –  Tamar K

For the past three years, we have been SO very fortunate to partner with Lithia Subaru on a number of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society collaborations. Through the years our partnership has strengthened and grown. They have been one of our greatest supporters of Light the Night and their positive impact has gotten bigger each year. As soon as we found out we were partnering again for the Subaru Blanket Deliveries, we jumped for joy! We immediately began to think of ways of making it an even more impactful delivery than in the past years. This led us to team up with two of our local health care facilities; Valley Children’s Hospital and Ccare to deliver blankets and art kits. Needless to say, we were blown away by how many people were impacted. The visit to Valley Children’s Hospital gave us the opportunity to see the kids open the arts and crafts kits. It was a beautiful scene seeing the excitement and joy on their faces. After we delivered the craft kits, Frank the General Manager of Lithia Subaru, and our Light the Nights staff, participated in an intense game of Jenga. As they played, our Patient Access team had the chance to talk to the child life specialists and oncology social workers. We witnessed how the actions of Subaru positively impacted the daily lives of these children. The hospital staff specifically mentioned how the kits were a great resource for the kids, especially when they had to be held in their rooms for treatment. This great impact continued into the following week when as we went to Ccare. We asked our board chair, whom is also a cancer survivor to join us in the deliveries. The responses of the patients, our volunteer, and care givers truly showed the ripple effect of the simple gesture of sharing kind words can make. Their treatments were made a little more bearable by witnessing how the community truly cares about them. Many even mentioned that the blankets were a perfect gesture, given the cold temperatures in the infusion rooms. As Janice, Russell and Frank from Subaru and the LLS and Ccare staff visited with various patients, and shared the messages of hope and blankets they were greeted with stories of individual journeys, smiles of appreciation and gratitude. Janice, our Board chair, later shared how being a part of the deliveries was one of the best and most impactful experiences she had ever been a part of, as a volunteer for LLS. It was a pleasure and a humbling experience to say the least. Even the nurses and the Ccare staff were excited and appreciative of the efforts and made sure to thank us repeatedly for the blankets as well as the messages of hope. By the time we left, we had distributed all of the blankets to the patients that were being treated that day. Seeing the impact this generosity had on patients, survivors and our community as a whole was truly so inspiring. It really displayed how Subaru truly values giving back to the community through their wonderful positive actions, keeping their love promise alive. Thank you so much Frank, Russell and LIthia Subaru for all you do for the patients in our community. We are so grateful to be partners with you.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace  –  Alisa S

This is why you see a Bunk Bed on our show room floor at Subaru of Fresno. Subaru of Fresno partners with the non profit organization, Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The goal is to provide beds to kids in our community beds that sleep on the floor every night. We build beds right here at the dealership and do bedding drives through the year so that when these kids get a bed they receive new sheets, pillows and blankets, sometimes for the very first time in their life. NO KID IN OUR TOWN SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR!

No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town!  –  Colleen P

Subaru of Fresno and Sleep in Heavenly Peace partnered together to build 50 beds for Kids who are sleeping on the floor. Once the beds are built, Subaru of Fresno and volunteers deliver them to the needy families. In the last year they have built and delivered 150 beds to kiddos. Thank you Subaru of Fresno for giving back to the community.

Celebrate the love  –  Jennifer W

Down Syndrome Association of Central CA is proud to have served the Central Valley and this year marks the 20th Anniversary! It is because of the generosity of businesses like Lithia Subaru of Fresno and the Subaru Share the Love campaign that allows us to bring education, support and love to all people whose lives are touched by Down syndrome... One of the most important roles we play as an organization is connecting families to other families in the community who have already or are just starting their journey with Down syndrome and because of the $36,000 donation made this year, DSACC will be able to provide multiple social events for families to meet, gather resources and build a community that accepts appreciates and includes our loved ones with Down syndrome. With funds from last year, we were able to host our Holiday social, our Merced Fest, our Visalia Fest, Family Festival and our largest to date World Down Syndrome Day celebration with over 125 friends joining us for a wonderful event! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you xoxox

Beating Cancer With LIthia Subaru  –  Tamar K

“Beating Cancer is In Our Blood” is our slogan at LLS and while it may not be Lithia Subaru’s, beating cancer is definitely in their blood, too. We are excited and so thankful to continue to partner again in 2019. Their continued support is instrumental in helping local patients, financially and through education and support. We are excited that for 2019 they have recommitted to deliver blankets and craft kits for local cancer patients in our community, as well as supporting our Light the Night walk!

We grow because you Share  –  Tony P

We grow for DSACC. I was a board member and have seen how DSACC has grown. Thanks to this check, it helps DSACC grow. We have a lot of abilities, we care for this world just like Subaru. I want to see DSACC grow even more in the years to come. Thanks for helping us grow and serve more families.

Share the Love DSACC  –  Meghan S

Thanks Subaru of Fresno. Thanks to DSACC I have met more friends. Without your support it couldn't have been possible!

Share the Love  –  Jennifer W

It is such a blessing to receive such tremendous support for Down Syndrome Association of Central California. Those funds have provided so many opportunities for families and individuals! We were able to take 65 individuals to the Monterey Bay Aquarium- many kids had never seen the ocean before and were blown away by all the incredible creatures. We were able to lower the rates for our annual World Down Syndrome Day BBQ and had record attendance with over 125 attendees there to celebrate with us. Funds also helped support other social activities we hosted such as our Serious Fun Saturdays, Holiday Social, Self Advocate committee and more! These funds also helped us reach out and support more than 45 new families, get more than 300 educational folders to all the major local hospitals in the Central Valley to give out to individuals and families.

Bring Light and Hope To The Darkness of Cancer  –  Tamar K

“This helps restore my faith in humanity,” and “Thank you for doing this, it really means a lot for our patients”, these words echoed through the halls of cCare, a local cancer center, as Frank and Russell visited with patients and delivered messages of hope along with the LLS team. The messages of hope moved patients and their families, specifically the notes from kids in our community. One message that was particularly moving was from little Izzie, a spunky 5 year old survivor and LLS ambassador, who had her last chemo treatment and lumbar infusion just a few weeks prior. Our Subaru team had met her last year when they teamed up with our Light the Night campaign and she became their designated honored hero. When Russell saw who the note was from and we shared Izzie's journey with the patient at cCare, you could see how it brightened her day and helped fill her with a sense of hope. Thanks to the Subaru Loves to Care program, and amazing partnership with LLS, Izzie’s personalized notes, truly helped to bring light to the darkness of cancer and all those affected by it, in particularly her own family (who also happen to be a proud Subaru family). Together, Subaru and LLS are Bringing Light and Hope to the Darkness of Cancer! Thank you Lithia Subaru for being such generous supporters in our community!

"No Kid Sleeps On The Floor In OUR Town"  –  Alisa S

Recently, Lithia Subaru of Fresno donated to our charity Sleep InHeavenly Peace-Fresno Clovis Chapter and joined our mission to make sure that kids in Fresno/Clovis ever have to sleep on the floor again. We are amazed by the needs here in our community to help kiddos that are currently sleeping on the floor to get into a bed of their own. Sleep In HeavenlyPeace was founded in Idaho and has swept the nation with over 90chapters. Our chapter has received over250 bed request since May and that number continues to grow with people of the community sending in requests daily. Many of these kiddos have never had a bed of their own and the impact this makes on their life is unmeasurable. With the donations of Lithia Subaru of Fresno, we built over 50 beds for kiddos in the area. Lithia Subaru of Fresno also held a bedding drive, and thanks to the generous customers and employees we received several donations of bedding. Frank Perez, General Manager, was instrumental in creating community involvement by making TV appearances, spreading the word about Subaru’s support of this charity as well as building and delivering beds. We have scheduled another build day with Frank and his team, and look forward to our continued partnership with them in making sure that “No Kid Sleeps On The Floor In OURTOWN”.

Helping Bring Light To The Darkness of Cancer  –  Tamar K

The Leukemia & Lymphoma's 2017 Light The Night campaign was a great success this year and one of the reasons is because our local Subaru partner "shared the love" and supported our annual Light The Night walk. The annual walk is a community event to inspire hope for those touched by cancer and to show them they are not alone. The Lithia Subaru of Fresno team helped us show the 1789 participants they were not alone by hosting our team photos and capturing the spirit of the night. With these photos, those who came were able to remember the support they felt while there. We are excited about this latest partnership with Lithia Subaru of Fresno and look forward to their continued support next year!

Subaru drivers everywhere in Fresno!  –  Casey F

It was with great pride on July 6th the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Central California chapter joined Lithia Subaru of Fresno to share some love with patients undergoing treatment at The California Cancer Associates for Research & Excellence of Fresno. Lithia Subaru provided 100 blankets to be personally handed out to local cancer patients along with messages of hope written by Subaru customers to spread care and love, one gesture at a time. As we entered the treatment infusion rooms to meet with patients, conversations about owning a Subaru started up and didn’t seem to end! One patient owned a collective total of 5 different Subaru’s over her lifetime, another patient couldn’t wait to stash her blanket in her daughters Subaru so her grandchildren could snuggle with it and think of her. By the end of the blanket deliveries, we counted over 27 Subaru owners among 43 patients that were all extremely touched by the heartfelt efforts of the Subaru General Manager and his staff. The social worker was so impressed with Subaru’s partnership that she asked when the next opportunity would be to promote their “Subaru loves to Care” program and how important the blanket delivery day has become to their patients and staff. The blankets were not only a big hit, but patients and hospital staff even asked if they could take home the cool box packaging that the blankets came in! Thank you for a truly joyful day to witness so many smiling faces when we left the cancer clinic!

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes...  –  Casey F

While not all heroes wear capes, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Central California chapter was honored to partner with one of our heroes - Lithia Subaru of Fresno. For the second year in a row we offered hope, love and inspiration to cancer patients undergoing treatment in the Central Valley. The heroic force was felt at Valley Children’s Hospital on July 26th, when a team of Subaru & LLS staff, hospital volunteers (including George the hospital giraffe) and our honored children survivors met to deliver blankets, messages of hope cards & craft kits to children currently battling cancer. Along with many Subaru staff and customers, our 5 honored children, ages 3 to 18 years old wrote messages of hope to the kids going through cancer treatment. General Manager of Lithia Subaru, Frank Perez, went above and beyond to order an extra 50 additional craft kits to make sure we had plenty of goodies to deliver to the many pediatric patients at Valley Children’s Hospital. During the deliveries, one of the recipient families said, “Wow, what an amazing gesture! I guess not all heroes wear capes… !” We are deeply humbled and greatly appreciative of the generous support from Subaru and the deep community impact they are making here in the Central Valley... one gesture at a time! You are making the world a better place and are true heroes!

Down to Share the Love  –  Jennifer W

Lithia Subaru is an incredible community supporter. Recently, they SHARED the LOVE with Down Syndrome Association of Central California... donating over $25,000! This is just incredible. With this incredibly generous donation, DSACC has been able to offer more support, social opportunities, and educational materials for members, new & expecting parents, and the community at no charge! We were also able to send 6 of adult advocates with Down syndrome and support staff to a national conference to learn more about advocacy and promoting the abilities of all individuals. "It truly makes an impact in our world and helps us continue our mission to enhance the quality of life of all people whose lives are touched by Down syndrome."

Lithia Subaru of Fresno Shares the Love  –  Allison T

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was proud to partner with Lithia Subaru of Fresno over the month of June as Subaru offered inspiration, hope and warmth to cancer patients in the Central Valley. During the course of the month, Subaru customers wrote messages of hope to patients going through cancer treatment. A total of 140 message cards along with co-branded (LLS & Subaru) blankets were delivered to patients at CCare (California Cancer Associates for Research & Excellence) in Fresno. LLS & Subaru executives delivered them to patients who were receiving treatment in the infusion rooms. The patients were extremely appreciative of this kind gesture. In a way to properly thank Subaru for their kind and generous giving spirit, LLS Board members, staff and honored patients gathered at the dealership to deliver a thank you message. Fourteen-year-old cancer survivor Christopher Cazares posed for a photo inside a Subaru with a sign reading, “Cancer Survivor and Future Subaru Driver.” Christopher and his twin brother Alex were surprised by the General Manager’s gesture to take them on a test drive in their favorite car. We are grateful to Subaru and their customers for giving back to the community and caring deeply for cancer patients!

Saving the Lives of the Valley's Homeless Animals  –  Katie A

The valley's homeless animals have been blessed with the support of our AMAZING Subaru dealership! In a community with such a large homeless animal population, Subaru's love promise helps bring hope to thousands of pets in need. Thanks to their help Animal Compassion Team was able to save over 1,000 homeless pets within the past year! The funds raised by Subaru provided life saving medical care for injured animals, helped feed the 150+ animals that call the Sofia Center home, spayed and neutered pets who will no longer contribute to the overpopulation, and assisted ACT in beginning the construction of a new building to save even more lives. Subaru's love promise does not stop at funds though- they also took the time to photograph and feature some of our adoptable pets. Their efforts helped these pets find their happily ever after. Subaru's love promise is a promise to help make this world a better place- and that is exactly what they have done for the people and animals at ACT!

Salesman EXCELLENT Customer Service  –  Nikki D

I recently purchased my 2nd Subaru in 2 years from Fresno's Lithia Subaru. During my first experience buying from Salesman Ed, he treated me with respect and a "we can make this happen" in a no-pressure sort of way. Additionally, he took the time to go over the car with me, even after hours (since that all my schedule allowed) and even was available for me to contact with questions as far as scheduling my first service, etc. He was my go-to-guy at Subaru until I learned my own way. Needless to say, when I went to purchase my next Subaru, I knew EXACTLY who I wanted to buy from...Ed of course! I sent him a text message to see if he was working and he promptly met me out front. During a very HOT (100+) day, he walked me around the lot and helped me fine the perfect car for me. Several times during the sales process which required walking back and forth across the ends of the lot, I offered to meet him in a more convenient spot for him, to which he kindly declined stating "I'm here to serve you!" and that I could sit in the air conditioning and drink cool water. After the sale, he followed up with me through email and sent me demonstration videos for some of the features where I needed clarity. Ed is an excellent example of service to customers and I feel that he goes above and beyond the typical level of customer service. He has a true heart to make the customer happy. When I decide to purchase my next Subaru, I will certainly call Ed first!

Lithia Subaru helps Animal Compassion Team assist over 800 animals  –  Katie A

Lithia Subaru of Fresno has helped Animal Compassion Team (ACT) assist over 800 animals this year alone. Thanks to Lithia Subaru of Fresno, we've been able to save special needs dogs like Chiquita and Daniel. Chiquita is a small Chihuahua with a heart of gold and a tail that never stops wagging. When we first met Chiquita she had a broken pelvis and massive hernias that were nearly as big as her, but thanks to donations from Lithia Subaru of Fresno, ACT was able to pull her from a high-kill shelter and get her the surgery she so desperately needed to repair her hernias. Now, Chiquita is doing great and looking forward to finding her forever home. Daniel is a spaniel mix that was roaming the streets of a small rural town outside of Fresno. He had a badly broken leg and was in desperate need of help. Thanks to Lithia Subaru of Fresno, he got that help. Now, he is running and playing on his repaired leg! For these animals, Subaru's Love Promise means the difference between life and death, Chiquita and Daniel are just two examples of the good that is possible with Subaru's support. Lithia Subaru of Fresno's support also allows ACT to work towards larger goals, such as a new quarantine building that will allow us to help even more high-risk animals from high-kill shelters. Lithia Subaru of Fresno's Love Promise is a promise that helps make our community better- not just for the people, but for the animals as well.
