What to Know About a Tire's Air Pressure

At Lithia Subaru of Fresno, we want you to drive safely wherever you go. One way to ensure your safety is to ensure that your tires are properly inflated. Tires that have too little pressure are prone to increased friction and a blowing out.

Tires that have too much pressure may not provide the traction that you need on a wet or icy road. Ideally, you will check your tire pressure prior to leaving home on extremely cold or hot days. This is because you can lose or gain several pounds per square inch (PSI) of air pressure when temperatures change quickly.

To check a tire's pressure, simply unscrew the valve cap, place the tire pressure gauge in the valve and leave it there for a few seconds to obtain a reading. Your car will likely let you know if a tire has insufficient air pressure or is flat.
