Automotive Service: Engine Air Filters

Your vehicle's engine air filter protects your engine from airborne contaminants like dirt, dust, and more. A pleated paper element along with a foam or paper breather element is used to block contaminants from the incoming air from the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve.

When is it time to replace the filter? If the air filter system becomes clogged and dirty, it can prevent enough clean air from reaching the engine which could result in decreased acceleration.

Check your vehicle's manufacturer recommendations on how often to replace your air filter. If you live or frequently travel through an area with a dirtier climate, you might consider replacing the filter with more frequency as you'll be driving in a more challenging environment.
